This weeks featured Girl-Lab girl is, 16 year old Geta Thunberg who is taking on climate change head on. In NYC and around the world today students are walking out demanding governments take action on global warming.
She has now been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for climate activism. She had given TEDx talks and has also spoken at the UN Climate Talks.
As a self-described introvert, she was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. She also has selective mutism and severe anxiety disorder in which a person is unable to speak in certain social situations.
In keeping up with her activism, she is a vegan and avoids traveling via plans. She just traveled across the Atlantic arriving in NYC via boat.
It all started when she was 15, with her first protest to the Swedish Parliament were she used hand-painted banners and homemade flyers to speak out about climate change. She states, "Some people say that Sweden is just a small country and that it doesn't matter what we do, but I think that if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school for a few weeks, imagine what we could ALL do together if we wanted to."
Let's ALL believe in the impossible because giving up can never be an option! Thank you, Greta Thunberg, for inspiring us that we can be more and do more. You are truly a Girl-Lab girl! Check out some of our Girl-Lab girls in NYC today protesting for climate change. We are truly stronger together!
